On May 9, 2025, Russia marked the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in Red Square with a massive military parade and international gathering. The celebrations ran from May 8–11, featuring historic T-34 tanks, flyovers by modern jets, and the “Immortal Regiment” march of veterans and descendants. Putin’s address drew parallels between World War II and current global tensions, framing Russia’s posture as a continuation of its “Great Patriotic War.” Despite the pageantry, critics note the event also served as a platform to legitimize Russia’s foreign policy and military ambitions.
