Malema Challenges Trump Over Liberation Chant🦸🏽⚖
2025
In response to former U.S. President Donald Trump's accusations regarding his use of the chant "Kill the Boer," South African opposition leader Julius Malema firmly defended his actions. Malema emphasized that the chant is a significant part of South Africa's anti-apartheid heritage and vowed to continue its use. Addressing supporters in the Free State, Malema stated, "I will not be silenced. The courts have said there’s nothing wrong with the song. This is not my song; I did not compose the song. The [anti-apartheid] struggle heroes composed this song, and all I'm trying to do is to defend the legacy of our struggle. This is the heritage of our struggle" Furthermore, Malema criticized Trump's claims of a "white genocide" in South Africa, labeling them as "absolute rubbish." He asserted that such statements would not intimidate South Africans and highlighted issues of violence affecting Black communities both in South Africa and the United States . The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Malema's party, also responded to the controversy, defending the chant as a liberation song and criticizing Trump's remarks as "illiterate rants" . Polity In summary, Julius Malema remains steadfast in his position, viewing the chant as an integral part of South Africa's historical struggle and rejecting external criticisms of its use.
