The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is an Ethiopian symbol of national self-reliance and economic transformation. The dam was financed mainly by Ethiopia itself rather than foreign governments. The rumours that the United States, the IMF, or the World Bank funded the project are false. They did not fund its construction, though they have taken part in diplomatic efforts around Nile water negotiations, negatively for Ethiopia to be able to accomplish it's effort. Beyond Ethiopia, GERD is expected to lighten and benefit the wider African region by providing clean, affordable electricity exports, supporting regional power integration, reducing flooding through regulated river flow, and strengthening economic cooperation across East and Northeast Africa. #EthiopianRenaissanceDam
